Various police forces across the UK have signed up with Gaydar.co.uk in the ongoing fight against homophobic hate crime.
The aim is to encourage the gay and lesbian community to use the website as a safe and confidential means of communicating with LGBT police liaison officers. Through Gaydar.co.uk, victims of, and witnesses to, homophobic hate crimes are able to receive clear, constructive advice around personal safety, crime and how to report it.
Abuse because of someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity is hate crime. If you have been verbally or physically abused, harassed or attacked in any way by someone because they think you are a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, please help yourself and the community by reporting these crimes.
Please note this is not a crime reporting system.
If you need to report a homophobic incident there are several ways to do it:
- In an emergency you should always dial 999.
- In a non-emergency situation you can contact your local police station direct.
- You might prefer to contact your local LGBT Police Liaison Officer – their contacts can be obtained online, usually via a Community Safety Unit: www.met.police.uk/csu, of via the Gaydar police profiles below.
- You may prefer to report via a third-party reporting site such as Galop (www.galop.org.uk), London Friend (www.londonfriend.org.uk), Crime Stoppers (www.crimestoppers-uk.org), or the the police funded True Vision wesbite (www.report-it.org.uk) either on the record or anonymously.
Hate crime, don't tolerate it, report it. With your help we can make hate crime stop.
